There are many complicated issues associated with aging in the United States. The pandemic in 2020 created a new classification of people: The "at-risk" group. People age 65 and older, frail or medically vulnerable. Older adults are having a hard time envisioning this "new normal." Medical emergencies can happen at any time. Knowing what to do in a medical emergency and afterwards can mean the difference between life and death. Will an older person's wishes for medical care be respected and followed? Has this become a national issue in 2020 with the massive nursing home deaths? This booklet uses the true story of a medical emergency, a survivable stroke, as an example of what can happen when a medical emergency is ignored and the care an older person wants and needs does not happen. Advance directives and critical instructions for medical care may not be followed by healthcare providers. Do the laws of your state protect you? Read and discover the shocking truth. Learn what you must do to try to protect older family members and even yourself in this "new normal." This booklet was updated in 2020 to assist the "at-risk" group in protecting themselves as they age and face medical emergencies
